Erfoud is a town in southeastern Morocco, located in the heart of the Tafilalet, one of the country's major oasis regions. Surrounded by palm groves and desert landscapes, it is an important stop on the road leading to Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes.
The Erfoud region is known for its dates , celebrated each year at the International Date Fair, but also for its numerous fossils. Nearby, workshops and boutiques process the fossiliferous marble extracted from this part of the Moroccan Sahara. The town is also close to the Ziz Valley, famous for its palm groves and oasis landscapes.
A few kilometers south, Rissani , the former capital of Tafilalet, boasts a large souk and a rich heritage linked to the ancient caravan routes. Further on, Merzouga offers direct access to the Erg Chebbi dunes, allowing visitors to explore the desert through excursions or overnight bivouacs.
