Rissani is a city in southeastern Morocco. It is located in the Meknes -Tafilalet region , not far fromArfoud (Erfoud).

The municipality, commonly known as Rissani , is named after the founder of the Alaouite dynasty (Moulay Ali Chérif) whose mausoleum is a cultural, religious and tourist attraction.

Rissani is the former capital of Tafilalet. In the 13th ^century , it welcomed the ancestor of the Alaouite dynasty who came from Saudi Arabia.

Once a major caravan center, Rissani remains one of the region's major trading hubs, boasting a large souk that is particularly lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. The bulk of the trade with Africa in the past consisted of gold, ivory, slaves , and salt, formerly imported from Mali. Tafilalet leather was produced in Rissani and was unparalleled in all of Morocco. It is a fine, supple leather made from goatskins tanned with tamarisk bark.

Its location as a crossroads between north and south gives the city an important status and has allowed it unparalleled urban development through the presence of various world-renowned Ksour
