is the capital and cultural center of the Tangier (Tanja) region in northern Morocco, in the western Rif; it is considered the most Andalusian city in the kingdom.
The city is located near Ceuta in the Jebala region , approximately 60 kilometers east of Tangier and close to the Strait of Gibraltar. It lies in a valley (the Tetouan Gorge) carved by the Mhannech River in the Rif Mountains, a limestone range to the north and south. Near Tetouan are several popular coastal tourist towns such as M'diq and Martil, and resort villages like Marina Smir and Cabo Negro.
