Hotels, riads, kasbahs, and hostels in Skoura

Skoura is a large palm grove of 25 km² , located 40 km from Ouarzazate in southern Morocco. It is one of the few palm groves in Morocco that is still inhabited and cultivated. It has approximately thirty thousand inhabitants and one hundred and thirty-eight thousand palm trees.

Famous for its many kasbahs, including that of Amerhidil which appears on old 50 Dirham banknotes, Skoura is the first point of passage on the Dadès road which leads to Kelaat M'Gouna, the Dadès valley, Boumalne and the Todgha gorges ( Tinghir ).

The palm grove has many douars (villages), whose inhabitants live mainly from agriculture: olives, almonds, fodder crops such as alfalfa, barley and other fruit trees (apple trees, apricot trees, fig trees, pomegranate trees...). Some artisans perpetuate ancestral traditions such as potters and basket weavers.

Suffering from drought for many years, like the rest of Morocco and especially the south, Skoura is benefiting from new income through tourism. Several guesthouses and hotels have opened in recent years, run by foreigners or locals. The palm grove can be explored on foot, by bicycle, on a donkey, or on horseback.
