Midelt is a mountain town situated between the Middle Atlas and the eastern High Atlas. Located at an altitude of over 1,500 meters, it forms a natural transition between the northern regions of Morocco and the more arid landscapes of the southeast. The surrounding hills, valleys, and forests give the region a character very different from that of the major imperial cities or the Sahara.

The area around Midelt is particularly well-suited to excursions and hikes, with mountain scenery, rural villages, and sweeping views of the Atlas Mountains. The region also offers the chance to discover another side of Morocco, cooler and more agricultural, before continuing on to the valleys and desert areas of the southeast.

Midelt is an interesting stop between Fes and Merzouga . Continuing south, the landscapes gradually become more arid until reaching the palm groves and dunes of Erg Chebbi.
