Located on the edge of a desert plateau, at the mouth of the upper Dadès valley at an altitude of over 1500 meters, Boumalne originates from an ancient transhumance route, controlled by the Ait Atta of Jbel Saghro and also used by the neighbouring tribes of Mgouna , Ait Sedrate , Ait Hdiddou and Ait Marghad between the summer pastures of the High Atlas and the winter pastures of the Saghro .

Boumalne Dadès is a popular tourist destination year-round (it's quite cool there, even in summer, due to its altitude). Indeed, its proximity to the famous Dadès and Todra gorges makes this town a must-see for holidaymakers.
