Tiznit, the city of silver at the gateway to the Anti-Atlas

Tiznit is a city in southern Morocco located between the Anti-Atlas and the Atlantic coast. Founded at the end of the 19th century, it is surrounded by long ochre ramparts punctuated by towers and monumental gates, which still encircle its historic medina today.

The city is particularly known for its silver craftsmanship . Jewelry, brooches, bracelets, and traditional objects are made in the workshops of the medina, especially around the Mechouar square. The narrow streets, souks, and ancient gates offer a glimpse of a city more peaceful than the country's major tourist destinations.

Tiznit also makes a good base for exploring the southern Souss region. To the north, Agadir provides access to the large Atlantic bay, while further south, Guelmim opens the way to the pre-Saharan landscapes and the great Moroccan south.
