The city is best known for the Moussem of Tan-Tan , a large annual gathering of nomadic populations from the Sahara, inscribed since 2008 on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This event celebrates oral traditions, music, crafts, horses, camels, and Hassani culture.
Approximately 25 kilometers to the west lies El Ouatia , also known as Tan-Tan Plage, with its fishing port and long Atlantic beach. To the north, Guelmim marks the transition to the Anti-Atlas Mountains, while to the south the road continues towards Laâyoune and the Atlantic Sahara.
